Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
The Randhawa family, hailing from Punjab, is known for their prosperous business, Dhanlakshmi Sweets, named after their matriarch, Dhanlakshmi Randhawa. Unfortunately, her husband, Kanwal Lund, has been wheelchair-bound and suffering from amnesia since a post-wedding accident. Their son, Tijori, closely resembles his mother in personality, and together they rule the household, including Tijori's timid wife, Punam, and their two grown children, Rocky and Gayatri.
During an award ceremony for Tijori, Kanwal mistakenly identifies a lady as someone named Jamini. Eager to assist his grandfather, Rocky tracks down a photograph of Jamini and embarks on a quest to find her.
Jamini, it turns out, is the grandmother of Rani Chatterjee, a renowned television news anchor. Rani hails from an intellectual Bengali family, with her mother, Anjali, being an English professor, and her father, Chandon, a professional Kathak dancer. Rocky and Rani decide to bring Jamini and Kanwal together at the Randhawa residence. After initial confusion, Kanwal eventually recognizes Jamini, leading to a surprising reunion—they had a brief extra-marital affair back in 1978. As Rocky and Rani facilitate multiple meetings between their grandparents, they also nurture their own blossoming romance.
However, when Jamini inquires about Rocky's intentions, Rani dismisses their relationship as a passing fling. Rocky's attempt at a marriage proposal is met with rejection, causing them to part ways temporarily. While on a work trip to Kashmir, Rani realizes her deep affection for Rocky and returns to express her feelings. To challenge prevailing patriarchal norms in Indian society, they decide to swap households for three months.
Rani endeavors to empower the women in Rocky's family. She encourages Punam to participate in a singing contest and helps Gayatri, who struggles with self-confidence due to her weight, secure a job. This sparks tension with Dhanlakshmi and Tijori. Meanwhile, Rocky faces ridicule from the Chatterjee family for his lack of general knowledge but is willing to change his ways to earn their respect. He even starts attending Chandon's dance classes.
During a marriage ceremony for one of Rocky's friends, a suggestion by Dhanlakshmi for Chandon to perform a Kathak dance results in mockery from the crowd. Rocky apologizes to Chandon and commits to shedding his patriarchal attitudes, further endearing himself to the Chatterjees. The turning point comes during the Durga Puja celebrations, where Rocky and Chandon perform a heartfelt dance to "Dola Re Dola." This incites Tijori's anger, leading to a heated confrontation. Rani, in a moment of frustration, pushes Tijori, which deeply offends Rocky. As a result, they decide to end their relationship.
Back at the Randhawa residence, a volatile argument between Tijori and Punam escalates when he tries to assert his dominance. Witnessing this, Rocky stands up against his father for the first time and decides to leave the household, taking his sister and mother with him. Tragically, Kanwal, who witnesses the altercation, recognizes his son but passes away shortly afterward. Jamini pays her respects, despite Dhanlakshmi's objections.
Several months later, Tijori undergoes a profound transformation and visits the Chatterjee family to apologize and propose marriage between Rocky and Rani. Eventually, Rocky and Rani tie the knot. Dhanlakshmi sends Rani the secret recipe of their sweets, seemingly accepting her as a member of the family, though she does not attend the wedding.
